January 2003 - The Governor of Arkansas, Mike Huckabee, wrote to say, "It takes a special group of people who love to take long treks on horseback to accomplish what you and the Long Riders are doing. We were delighted to have you in our state and wish you much success in the days and months to come."

16th December - Little Rock, Arkansas
"My husband has been a friend of Gene's for more than fifteen years. Gene called us before he started his journey and we have been following his trail through The Long Riders' Guild web site. We live south of Little Rock AR and would love to see Gene when he comes through Arkansas. I sometimes worry about Gene, but I know that God looks out for him."

14th January - Lonoke, Arkansas
"I just wanted to email you all to let you know Gene is bedded down safe here in Lonoke, Arkansas. We have boarded his horses, Frank and George, at the Fair Grounds and they are doing excellent. He is quite a man. We are honored to have met Gene. He is such an inspiration and a man that stays with you. I wish I had more time to visit with him."
