"April 20,2005
Calder ,Idaho pop.35 on the beautiful St.Joe River. Gene was crossing the panhandle of Idaho, headed for Montana when he spent the night here in Calder. The next day he rode to Avery, Idaho up river 24 miles from Calder. Gene attempt to cross Gold Creek into Montana was abandoned because of to much snow. The horses were through up to there bellies. Gene turned around and went back to Avery to spend one more night. The folks in Avery took good care of Gene and his horses.

Gene’s plan for today was to leave at 3 in the morning to cross over Moon Pass. Which will take him to Wallace, Idaho. This route will take them through 7 tunnels on a old dirt road. We are hoping that all goes well on Moon Pass. The weather is supposed to be warm but living so close to the mountain passes we are aware of how sudden storms can change everything. We’re pretty sure that Gene has an Angel along on these trip. God Speed to Gene Glasscock it has a been a privilege to meet you."

"I was privileged to meet Gene Glasscock when he stopped for the night on the St. Joe River in north Idaho. Gene loves kids and I loved sitting way up there on his horse. Gene is a fun guy. Every time my mom wanted me to smile he would stick his false teeth out at me. Gene made me believe that you can put your mind to anything and accomplish it. He also made me think about fulfilling my long lost dream of having a horse."

"I received a call from my cousin Cindy from Avery telling me of Gene's coming into Wallace and could I help out. I had read the April 16th article in the North Idaho Spokesman so I knew of Gene. I was elated to say the least. I was surprised at the eager fast pace those horses had as they passed our house on Placer Creek. Someone Gene had met on his way over Moon Pass said he could put up his horses at their place. We had the privilege of spending a great deal of time with Gene. I enjoyed our conversations. He was a perfect gentleman, insisting on taking his shoes off before he came into our home. Cooking him breakfast and doing his laundry was an honor. He even attended the Baptist church in Osburn. My husband Denny along with Shauna Hilman routed him a way out of Wallace. We had some grain waiting for him at Haugen Mt. where he had planned to make it Monday night the 25th. My husband and I will never forget our experience with Gene Glasscock."

"Hey Gene it was an honor to be your host family in Wallace, ID. We loved talking with you and hearing your amazing stories, and like I said you are always welcome at our house. I hope you make it back home in time for your 71st birthday. You will be in our prayers."
