July 2005 - Tim Pawlenty, Governor of Minnesota: "We are honored to welcome you into our state. Your dedication to international students and senior citizens of this nation is inspiring."

Kevin McNeely and his family sent us there photos of Gene at the border to Minnesota

Gene wanted to cross the historic Stillwater, MN, lift-bridge. The bridge closed for maintenance and repair the day before Gene was to cross, so special accommodations had to be made to allow him to cross. He got there early Tuesday, 8/2, and had to walk the horse across the sidewalk. Parts of the bridge had already been removed. The contractor strung safety tape along the pathway for the horses, and they shut off their equipment for a few minutes so as not to spook the horses. The mustang did spook a bit, as he did not want to get up on the sidewalk. He just took a little extra encouragement.

"Hi I am from Clara City, MN. I saw Gene going through our town last week, Yesterday I was in Minneapolis, 3 hours west of me. on my way out of the cities. I met Gene & his 3 horse trotting down the highway, He was just entering the cities & heavy traffic, they were moving at a swift trot. the interstate was dividing just a few miles ahead of him, not sure which way he was going to go... But I'm sure many people were wondering what a man on 3 horses was doing on the busy highway. It was neat to see. "
