"I received a call from a friend near Rockingham, North Carolina telling me about Gene and asking if my wife Lynne and I would put him up at our home in Cheraw, South Carolina. After he told me about Gene I agreed. Gene arrived at our house on Thursday, November 20th at about 3:15 PM. We settled Gene's horses in and I took Gene to supper (that guy can eat).
We talked until about 11:30pm. What an unbelievable man! I called some friends in Patrick, South Carolina, Jimmy and Judith Jordan, who agreed to host Gene the next night. Gene left our home the next morning heading for Patrick and I saddled up my horse Dollar and rode along. I left Gene in Patrick and returned home. I talked to Gene the next morning and he told me the folks that were going to ride with him that day were not coming and asked me if I would ride with him again. I trailered to Patrick and left on Dollar with Gene and rode to Mcbee, South Carolina where Gene was being hosted by the Billy Pritchard Family. I said goodbye again, wishing that I could continue to go along, but I am due in Washington State in a few days and knew I couldn't go with him.
I will never forget my time with Gene Glasscock and feel humbled to have been allowed to join his ride for two days."

"I met Gene in West Columbia, South Carolina and finally remembered the card he gave me. In looking at your website, I am awed and amazed. When he and those beautiful horses pulled into the Burger King on a major road under construction I thought I was seeing things. I love horses and they were beautiful. The few minutes I spoke to Gene I was impressed, but he was very humble and never hinted at what he was attempting to do. He is an amazing man and I wish him and his "babies" Godspeed and best wishes. Had I only known what kind of man he was and what he was trying to do I would have offered him help or at least a hot meal and a fresh bed for the night. When you speak to him again, please give him our best and we will keep him in our prayers. If there is anything that he needs, please let us know. I regret that I didn't have the forethought to offer when I met him.
Take care and again wish him our best. I wish that I, at almost 38, had his stamina. The next day I wake up feeling sorry for myself or "older" than I am, I'll think of him.
Have a merry Christmas and wonderful New Year."

"We knew he was coming. I had gone to town at lunch time, and saw two horses tied in front of Burger King. I got so excited, I called my wife. I said "I'm sure that's him, I'm sure that's him... " Gene rode up our driveway about 4pm. The man had a big smile on his face, as if he was ready to handle anything that came his way. We raise Tennessee Walking Horses. We were thrilled to see that is what Gene was riding. So, after the horses were fed, (we have 30 of our own), we came in for supper.
Thanksgiving Day. What a wonderful day. We heard stories from Gene, and we had a few for him. He was not able to see the Governor till Monday so we asked him to stay the weekend with us. What a joy it was to have Gene here. I introduced Gene to a friend of mine. His name is Bob Richensin . Bob is an 85 year old endurance rider. Yes, I said 85. He has ridden the Tevis Cup in CA - the 100 mile ride - six times, and he STILL rides 50 and 100 mile rides. Sunday morning was church. Sunday evening was our annual Christmas party and tree trimming. All of our horse friends come and trim the tree at our place. Gene was the best gift any of us could have ever had. What a kind man he is... Monday morning, with spirits high, we rode to see the Governor. But he was not home. We met with his special projects coordinator Ashlie Lancaster. She presented Gene with a letter from the Governor wishing him well and saying he was sorry he couldn't be there to meet him. Then Gene had a Radio interview with a Dallas radio station. Alas Wednesday morning rolled around. His ponies fattened up, Gene packed up ready for the trip to Atlanta. My wife bought him a new pair of gloves, as the forecast is calling for highs in the 30's this week in SC. We truly have been blessed this past week, It is a Thanksgiving we will remember for a long time."

"My father has never been so honored to have someone bunk in his house as Gene Glasscock did last night. All of us Corleys hustled over there to see what the excitement was all about. We were mesmerized by his soft-spoken conversation and integrity. A true horseman and gentleman. When Gene left this morning from the Saluda, SC area, I have no doubt that my dad wondered if he could do the same thing. My dad is a horseman and an adventurer, too. Our Christmas wish is that he, Frank and George will remain safe."
